Please join us on Saturday, June 22, for our first Jones Hill and MBK617 Block Party! We’ll be having fun, meeting neighbors, and raising funds for My Brother’s Keeper 617 (MBK617), a nonprofit, Dorchester-based organization that provides mentoring to young men and boys from the Boston community.
The party is taking place rain or shine, from 1 to 5 pm, on the Columbia Road side of Cushing Avenue (by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church). The event itself is free. We’ll have:
- food for sale, including food from Wahlburgers, Dublin House, Upham’s House of Pizza, and Borinquen Bakery
- games and contests, including basketball competitions (and prizes!)
- raffles with prizes including gift cards from local businesses, gift baskets, a professional photography session, 3 months of unlimited classes at South Boston Yoga, Red Sox tickets, a week in a Key West vacation home, and much more
- live music from Lakeshore Drive and other local acts, plus a DJ
- much more!
If you can’t make it or would like to make a donation, please visit our GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/my-brothers-keeper-617.
About MBK617: The goal of MBK617 is to show young men and boys that they can make choices that will lead them to increased academic and professional opportunities. MBK617 was founded in 2014 by six men raised in Dorchester, who know the struggle of the streets firsthand and were uniquely familiar with the pressure to go down the wrong path. Using their own resources, these mentors have exposed dozens of boys, teens, and young men to new ways of life and given them advice on a broad range of topics, including getting a driver’s permit, building credit, pursuing higher education, job training, pride in themselves and their neighborhood, and establishing financial independence through legitimate employment.
